Information for TeachersWhile the European Youth Parliament Ireland is aimed primarily at young Irish students, we think both teachers and parents will find our activities appealing – as much as from a school’s as from a parent's perspective.
During our conferences, students engage in challenges academic and social, they are tasked not just with putting forth their ideas but creating a resolution on a topic representing the shared views of their team, thus broadening their experiences. The same applies to political knowledge and debating skills, which are both fostered within the EYP. For all these reasons, many teachers value the EYP as a unique opportunity for learning and self-development for young students. The EYP wants to promote non-formal learning in the field of political education. Our work is volunteer-based only, and we greatly appreciate and value the support of Second level schools in Ireland. Participating schools may delegations of up to 8 delegates to our Regional Conferences (though if there are surplus space, they may email us for more delegate spots subject to availability). Additionally, young people may attend as an individual delegate as long as they are 16-18 regardless of their school status. Please contact the Head Organiser for the relevant session for more information. Students must be in either Transition, Fifth or Sixth Year or 16-18 if not participating in the Secondary-School System. Delegates will be placed into committees completely independent of their school based on their preference for each topic. It's important that delegates attempt to communicate effectively, co-operate with others, be open-minded and that they've researched their topic. Delegates should dress casually for Friday but are expected to be dressed smart-casually for Saturday and formally for Sunday. However it is most important for us that delegates are comfortable in what they wear, and so delegates may deviate from these expectations if they are more comfortable this way. Delegates may wish to bring a change of clothes for Saturday evening's entertainment. Our safeguarding rules apply at all times. Any delegate found with alcohol or illegal drugs in their possession will have them confiscated and will be sent home immediately. Participation fees for a Regional Conference is €60-€75 per student. This covers the costs associated in the running of the conference. EYP Ireland is volunteer-run not-for-profit, and so all funds raised go back to operating its events. It is very important that the fees are paid in advance of conferences as fees accepted in-session will incur an administration fee of ten to fifteen Euro. We invite you to pay for our events digitally through our Stripe system, through the registration form of your chosen conference. Participation fees for the National Selection Conference is €100.00 per delegate. It is important to note that refunds are only available in exceptional circumstances. It is extremely important that delegates and their parent(s)/guardian(s) have completed and submitted signed consent forms i.e. parental consent & media consent forms. These are available here on the website at the section detailing the relevant session and will also be available for download on registration online. For legal reasons, delegates will not be able to attend the conference without these completed forms. The forms must be signed by the delegate, and a parent/guardian, unless that delegate is not under the age of 18. |
